Rooftop garden design

This contemporary rooftop garden in Brooklyn by American garden designer Julie Farris is a fantastic example of the growing trend towards wild garden design.

Described by Farris as a “rooftop meadow”, the selection of drought and wind tolerant perennials has been incorporated into a garden design of raised timber garden beds, timber walkways and pebbles. Built-in seating, artificial turf and a BBQ add the practical touches for family living and entertaining.

Colour has been introduced with a fabulous array of flowering perennials in pinks, purples, yellows, reds and white set against leafy greens, natural greying timber and brown river pebbles.

Perfectly adapted to Australian conditions this style of garden is well suited to the wonderful selection of Australian native grasses, Dianella, Kangaroo Paw, Pigface, Westringia, Grevilleas and Scaevola available to mention just a few.
